NeoDJ Pro User Manual

Documentation for installation, audio setup, library, decks, mixer, AutoMix, Set Creator, MIDI and VFX Studio.

Orientation

Workspace

Quick start: your first mix

  1. Open Settings → Audio and choose the audio device, outputs and buffer size.
  2. Import a music folder or individual tracks into the library and let analysis finish.
  3. Load two tracks into two decks by double-click, drag-and-drop or a load command.
  4. Set a master deck, enable Sync if required, and start the second track on a matching phrase.
  5. Mix with trim, EQ, filter, channel faders and crossfader. REC records the master.

Top bar and system status

The top bar opens AutoMix and VFX Studio, starts recording and shows master tempo, time, DSP, CPU and RAM load. NEWS and SETTINGS are on the right.

Watch DSP and CPU during live use. Persistently high values call for a larger audio buffer or less demanding VFX.

Decks, mixer and library

NeoDJ works with two or four decks. The central mixer contains channel strips and master controls. Parallel beatmatch waveforms sit above the decks; the library remains available along the bottom and its height is adjustable.

Before the first set

Installation & license

Install and update

Download the current version from your OffPrism account or the downloads page. Close NeoDJ before updating and install the new version over the existing installation. Library data and settings remain in the user profile.

Activate a perpetual license

Open Settings → About / License, enter the license code and confirm activation. The license view shows status, local time and remaining validity. Each activation uses one purchased device seat.

After successful activation the app can be used offline. Activation, deactivation and license checks temporarily require internet access.

14-day trial

Choose “Start 14-day trial” on launch or open Settings → About / License. The trial is activated directly in the app; no separate request or demo code is required.

Signal flow

Audio & outputs

Audio device and latency

Under Settings → Audio, select driver, device, sample rate and buffer size. Smaller buffers respond faster but use more CPU. Increase the buffer if you hear clicks or dropouts.

Route master and cue

Assign the master output to the audience feed and cue/phones to a separate headphone channel. CUE on a channel previews that deck before its channel fader without changing the master.

Understand the signal path

A deck signal passes through trim, 3-band EQ, filter, channel FX and channel fader into the crossfader and master. Master FX and limiter process the sum. Recording and VFX tap the master signal at defined points.

Prepare your music

Library & analysis

Import tracks

IMPORT FOLDER scans a folder recursively; IMPORT TRACK(S) adds selected files. Known files are not duplicated unnecessarily. Progress appears in the status bar and large collections continue in the background.

Automatic track analysis

Analysis detects tempo, beatgrid, musical key, energy and waveform data. Cover art and file information are read as well. This data powers Sync, Quantize, Set Creator and AutoMix.

Finish analysing new tracks before a live set. A verified beatgrid is the most important foundation for Sync and phrase transitions.

Search, sort and organise

Search filters title, artist and other metadata. Columns such as BPM, key, power, duration, rating, genre and played status help with sorting. Collections and playlists organise music, while preview waveforms support visual selection.

Load tracks

Double-click to load into the intended deck, drag a track directly onto a deck, or use the context menu. Before replacing a playing deck, always verify its number and playback status.

Mix manually

Decks & transport

Play, pause and cue

PLAY starts or pauses the deck. CUE returns to the temporary cue point and enables previewing. The active deck is colour-coded; title, remaining time, BPM and key stay visible on the deck.

Sync, master and tempo

MASTER defines the tempo and phase reference. SYNC aligns another deck. The pitch fader changes tempo manually, while nudge temporarily corrects phase. Phase comparison shows whether beats align across decks.

Key lock and musical key

KEY LOCK keeps pitch stable when tempo changes. The key display supports harmonic selection, and key shifting can make transitions more compatible. Larger shifts are more audible, so always check them in cue.

Slip and quantize

QUANTIZE snaps hotcues, loops and jumps to the beatgrid. In SLIP mode the virtual playhead continues in the background; after a cue, loop or jump the track returns to where it would have been without the action.

Refine timing

Waveforms & beatgrid

Detail and overview waveforms

The detail waveform shows the area around the playhead, beats, hotcues and loops. The overview shows the complete track for fast navigation. Colours represent frequency content and help distinguish bass, mids and highs.

Parallel beatmatch waveforms

The upper waveforms place all decks on a shared timeline. Beat and bar lines, phase offset and master markers show immediately which deck is early or late and where a phrase starts.

Check and correct the beatgrid

Open the deck/grid menu from the gear or GRID mode. Set the downbeat to the real first beat, halve or double an incorrectly detected BPM value, and use the fine editor to shift the grid or make small BPM corrections. Changes are stored for the track.

A wrong downbeat can produce poor AutoMix and Sync transitions even when the BPM appears correct.

Shape the sound

Mixer, FX & VST3

Channel strip

TRIM balances input level. HI, MID and LOW form a 3-band kill EQ; FILTER progressively removes low or high frequencies. The channel fader controls level and CUE feeds the headphone bus. Meters help prevent clipping.

Crossfader and master

The crossfader blends assigned deck sides; its curve can be set for smooth mixing or fast scratch behaviour. The master strip contains sum level, limiter and cue/headphone controls.

Built-in effects

Each FX rack can be assigned to a deck, with another rack available for the master. Choose an effect, set time, feedback and mix, then enable it with ON. Use effects sparingly during transitions to preserve transients and intelligibility.

VST3 plug-ins

Choose “Load plug-in…”, scan standard VST3 paths if required, and load an audio effect as an insert after the built-in effect. ON and MIX control bypass and dry/wet; EDIT opens the plug-in UI or a generic view. Plug-in selection and state are saved.

Test new plug-ins before live use. Instrument plug-ins are not intended for the FX rack; problematic plug-ins may be blocked during scanning.

Performance tools

Stems, pads & loops

Control four stems

The stem view separates a track into vocals, drums, bass and melody. Mute or solo parts, build acapellas and instrumentals, or deliberately swap bass and drums during a transition. Separation is prepared and then reused.

Hotcues 1–8

An empty pad stores the current position; an assigned pad jumps to it. Markers appear in the waveforms. With Quantize, new cues snap to the beatgrid; delete a cue using the relevant pad or context action.

Manual and automatic loops

IN and OUT create a manual loop. Auto-loop creates a beatgrid-aligned length; 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and other beat sizes are directly available. Halve/Double changes length, Exit leaves the loop and Reloop recalls the last loop.

Beat jump and sampler

Beat jump moves playback forward or backward by exact beat amounts without permanently changing tempo. Performance pads can also play one-shot sounds for drops, jingles or accents; the sampler feeds the master mix.

Automated sets

AutoMix

Start AutoMix

Open AUTOMIX, choose the entire library or a playlist as the source, and optionally limit the BPM range. Dramaturgy and variant influence energy flow and selection character. START hands the set to the engine.

Engine and transition mode

Under Settings → AutoMix, select the AutoMix engine and blend mode. The current engine evaluates structure, phrases, tempo, key and energy. “Auto (stems when ready)” uses stem transitions when available; loop-assisted transitions can safely extend the outgoing track.

Track selection

Candidates are scored by tempo distance, harmonic compatibility, energy and usable entry/exit phrases. Long quiet intros or outros and central main sections are not preferred transition points when better structural points are available.

Phrase-based transitions

AutoMix plans overlap, entry and exit on beat and phrase boundaries. Depending on the material it uses EQ/bass swaps, stems or a reduced blend. If analysis or sync are not reliable enough, transition complexity is reduced instead of forcing a risky effect transition.

AutoMix benefits from correctly analysed extended and club mixes. Check problematic tracks in the beatgrid editor first.

Prepare a running order

Set Creator

Generate a set

SET CREATOR builds a running order from a selection or collection using tempo, key and energy. Define the target and limits, run the calculation, then review the proposed energy arc.

Review and load into decks

Reorder tracks if required, remove unsuitable suggestions or replace them. The finished running order can be saved as a working plan and then loaded directly into the decks. Set Creator plans the order; the actual transitions remain manual or handled by AutoMix.

Capture the set

Recording

Record the master

Click REC in the top bar, choose destination and format, then confirm. NeoDJ records the master mix as WAV or FLAC and keeps the elapsed time visible. Click again to stop and finalise the file.

Ensure a clean recording

Check master level and free disk space before starting. Avoid sustained limiter clipping. On exit, NeoDJ waits for audio, analysis and storage jobs to finish safely and shows progress.

Audio-reactive visuals

VFX Studio

Choose and edit a visual

Open VFX-STUDIO from the top bar. The library contains bundled ISF/GLSL visuals and your own presets. The shader editor shows code, live preview, parameters and diagnostics; changes are safely compiled before going live.

Audio mapping

Map loudness, frequency bands, FFT, waveform, beat or bar phase to shader parameters. Amount, curve, smoothing and time offset shape the response. Beat information comes from the master deck beatgrid; without a master grid, beat and phase are unavailable.

Scenes and live buses

A scene combines several visuals as layers with blend mode, opacity and parameters. Preview and Program separate preparation from the visible output. TAKE, CUT, the VFX crossfader, transitions, cues and playlists control scene changes during a show.

Output and projector calibration

Choose a second monitor or projector as the Program output and enable full screen. Corner pin aligns four corners, mesh warp corrects uneven surfaces, and edge blend joins projectors. Masks, colour correction and 3D LUT adjust visible area and colour.

Live control and safety

Blackout hides the output and Freeze holds the current frame. VFX actions and parameters can be controlled by MIDI, OSC or keyboard. Audio analysis runs separately from the audio path; under visual overload, frames are dropped so audio remains the priority.

MIDI & control

Use MIDI Learn

  1. Connect the controller and open MIDI from the top bar or Settings.
  2. Choose the NeoDJ action and enable LEARN.
  3. Move the control or press the button on the controller.
  4. Test the assignment and repeat for further actions.

Notes suit buttons and pads, while CC messages control pitch, volume, EQ, filter, crossfader and master.

Manage mappings

Mappings are saved and restored on the next launch. Remove an assignment using the table delete/context action. Newly connected MIDI inputs are detected. VFX Studio adds MIDI Learn targets for scenes, parameters and live actions.

Your workflow

Interface & performance

Configure the interface

Settings divides interface options into themes, deck layout, beatmatch waveforms, deck waveforms, overview, mini/library waveforms, meters, faders & knobs, pad/stem decks and jogwheel & display. Changes apply immediately and are saved automatically.

Library and screen layout

Drag the divider to change library height; NeoDJ restores it on the next launch. The library can appear semi-transparent or opaque above the decks. Choose a deck layout that suits resolution, touch targets and multi-monitor workflow.

Optimise performance

  • Use a larger buffer if audio drops out.
  • Analyse tracks and stems before the live set when possible.
  • Reduce VFX resolution, layer count or shader complexity under high GPU load.
  • Close unnecessary plug-ins and background applications.
  • Watch DSP, CPU and RAM in the top bar before going live.

Quick solutions

Troubleshooting

No sound or audio dropouts

Check the audio device, master/cue routing, channel and master faders, and crossfader assignment. For clicks, increase buffer size, match sample rates between device and project, and reduce CPU-heavy plug-ins or VFX.

Sync or AutoMix is off

Check BPM, downbeat and grid progression in both tracks. Correct half/double time, set the first beat again and fine-tune the grid. Then let the track be evaluated again for structure and phrases before using it in an automated mix.

VFX does not react or stays black

Check that a visual compiles, Program rather than Preview is being output, and the correct monitor is selected. Audio reaction requires a master signal; beat/bar reaction requires an analysed beatgrid on the master deck.

Plug-in missing or causing problems

Run the VST3 scan again and verify the install path. Remove an unstable plug-in from the rack and test it separately. If NeoDJ blocks a plug-in after a scan crash, update it before clearing the block.
